Why do people post journal online?

I notice that many here have their journals posted online. Do you think people will go there n read all the things u wrote? Or is it just for fun? Or you want all your friends to know what u feel n think?

I do it for friends, and they do read it.

I don't know. I guess it's to let your friends know what's happening with you. If they want to read it, the can. If not...

Sofiagod, I totally agree... I just don't get it... Personnally, I don't have a journal at all, on Internet or on my computer or in braille... I had one before when I was 11 and 12 years old but well, I was sweet and innocent, in love with a singer... lol but I had a whole truck of shit in my life since those sweet years and I don't know, I remember it enough, I don't want some pages to explain them in details.... lol So yes, I don't get the livejournal thing, I don't understand that psychology.... lol I'll have to study it.

I do it to keep track of my life, to let my friends know what's going on, to voicepost my music or showcase stories or poetry, I read my friends' journals on my friends list and see what they're up to and I think journalling is a great communication tool if used appropriately and properly. I don't add any attention whores as friends or sometimes I get people who want to sign up for a LiveJournal account just to read my LJ and I tell them no, they have to write in theirs at least a couple times a week so that it's mutual.

I mainly do it, to let people know how things are going in my life. When I went to get my new guide dog I had a lot of people reading my journal. Even a lot of people I didn't know were reading it.

I don't update as much as I should, but hopefully, I'll get back into it.

it always strikes me as strange that someone would write about their personal lives for all/even select people to see. surely if you want your friends to know what's going on in your life you could just talk to them?

All this online journal writing is relatively new, and before online journals were invented people had diaries, but those were generally considered private, people didn't generally pass them round for their friends to see, so why do it with a journal?

I do have an online journal. Usually the journal is used to exhibit my poetry and other works, since I have freedom to format that way. I'll occasionally put in personal entries, but it's mostly a collection of my writings.

I write in my Journal because it's a nice storage medium. If someone else so happens to be interested in what I have to say, then that's their affair and I appreciate their time in reading my offerings. I never put extremely sensative material on the journal, that's just silly. What personal entries I make are fairly vague and free of names and other identifying information.

Nice having all this points. I once started writing a journal when i was down n upset, but then i stop. And the other day when i was going through my things i found the journal and read it. And guess what? I found it very stupid to be feeling that way. But then i think things that u write when u r down n upset can be very different from the things u normally feel.

I guess my Livejournal is just a way to express myself. In one entry I might rant on about something on my mind, and in the next one I might talk about some new DVDs I received that might be of interest to my readers. That's all I can really say at the moment to justify why I ahve one and write in it.

I do it to just, you know, get shit out that annoys me, makes me happy, etc. It's like taking a snapshot of a moment in my life, hopefully it's a good one. I also do it to see how I've grown as a writer. I do enjoy writing somewhat, and it's just a way for me to be me, no rules, unstructured, no writing assignments like back in school. I write because I want to, not because some stupid teacher told me to. I've got no real big bad secrets to hide, ok i have a few but what's secret stays secret for obvious reasons. 99% of my entries are public, just cause I guess someone may see it and figure out that they aren't alone if they may have been in a similar situation or something. I like helping people and if my lj helps someone get through a hard time, makes them laugh, or whatever, then it's all good.

I use to be a very private person, I guess you'd say. but, I love my Livejournal. I get a bit of a kick out of sharing my life publically. I guess it's been a mission for me to be more open and proud of who I am as I use to be quite in, shy and ashamed (especially when I was trying to accept my, shall we say "slightly different from the majority" sexuality. It's different now. I still keep some things private but most my every day happenings do go public.

For me, I usually use it to let my friends know about important things that are going on with me, such as if I'm going to disappear from the net for a while, so people don't worry. Also, I do use it as an escape valve if life has been getting to much to just keep inside. However often times those entries I mark private, so no one but me can see. I have found it useful to look back at past journals to see who I've become from the past, but after multiple computer crashes where I lost journals, if I post them on a remote server, It's less likely I'll lose those thoughts from the past. Those are just a few reasons I use one.

Sophia, if you don't wanted anyone to read your journal entries, you can set the security on "protected." That way, no one will read it. I have a live journal. Some of my entries are trotected, but most of them are read by friends. I don't mind it though. b

Well I don't use live journal, but I do have a blog, and I love it to death. I barely started with it, but I figure I'll write down as much as I can, and if there is something I don't want others to know I'll just mark it as private and no one can see it... I guess in a way it hleps me keep track of the fast going life I sometimes seem to have.
